The Research Consortium for Ocean Science (RECOS) is marking an exciting milestone: its first year of progress since launching last summer.
As a coalition, RECOS has identified certain national priorities for member institutions. Below is the current state of play for the federal funding accounts that RECOS has targeted and advocated. Along with other community voices, RECOS has specifically engaged with Congressional offices and committees on these matters and other associated legislation:
- Ensure NOAA Ocean Science funding continues at the enacted level – $251M
- Ensure NASA Earth Science funding continues at the enacted level – $2.195B
- Ensure NSF Division of Ocean Science funding continues at the enacted level – $440M
- Support Navy shipbuilding by appropriating $20M only for Ship Preliminary Design and Feasibility Studies
- Support Navy Ocean Sciences by continuing funding at the enacted level for Defense Research Sciences ($496.4M) and Ocean Warfighting Environment Applied Research ($113.4M)
Thank you to everyone in RECOS and at IFS for their hard work in moving US ocean advocacy forward. Let’s keep up the fantastic work!
